Ojai, CA- Maryanne Lithgow (37) opened fire today at a local coffee shop called Anne’s Coffee and Treats. She entered the business around 7:45am and was in a rush to get her children to summer school on time. By 7:50am her order was placed and it was not until 8:00am that she did receive her morning coffee and headed back out to her car where her 3 children were waiting.
Not a minute after she walked out she returned. Already with an elevated voice she demanded someone remake her coffee and to do it “right now”. Apparently the barista forgot to add almond milk to her coffee and used whole milk instead. Raving about being lactose intolerant, many employees and customers tried to get her to calm down. It was now 8:05am and she was looking even more agitated. Her kids needed to be 15 miles away in 5 minutes and Maryanne believed it was all the fault of Anne’s Coffee and Treats, their employees and the other customers.
Employees asked her to wait several times as they were in the middle of making coffee for the other customers. At 8:08am Maryanne Lithgow removed a gun from her purse and began firing. At the end of the skirmish, 3 people; including 2 employees and 1 customer were dead on scene. 8 others were rushed to a hospital and are expected to make full recoveries.
Authorities arrived shortly after the final bullet left the gun. Maryanne surrendered to police without incident. She is being held at Ventura County Jail on 1st degree murder charges and acts of terrorism. She is expected to spend the rest of her life behind bars. Her children are safe in the custody of their father.
